Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture, Institut Teknologi Bandung is established in October 25, 1950 as one of the oldest architectural schools in Southeast Asia. It envisions itself as the regional hub for the learning of tropical architecture and built environment in developing countries.
Architecture as a built environment is developed by and for human needs as dictated by a cultured living. The fulfillment of physical and spiritual needs is then interpreted into space and form by the Architect. Through spatial design and form, the Architect tries to create positive influence on the environment and people. In that sense architecture can be viewed as an adaptive optimization of various external and normative factors which continuously seek balance and final form; it is a process that requires creative, imaginative and innovative research and design, based on rational empirical knowledge.
At the Department of Architecture, education is focused on the development of capacity to understand a wide range of issues required to answer the challenges that lie ahead in the field of architecture and built environment. Broad-based design curriculum is introduced to catch up with the science of architecture that grows and develops in tandem with changes in human needs, natural and environment, science and technology, as well as art and design.
Students in the Department are provided with basic architectural skill that prepares them to enter the production and/or management of the built environment and/or to pursue post-graduate education.
